  • Home brew question for canadians

So my sister lives in canada and love ice wine (near brantford). Can't find any to send direct. So I've sent her a kit that's had great reviews and looks pretty straightforward.

Now in the uk, home brew is widespread and the kit is cheap as chips.

So it never occured to me that it'd be hard to find in canada.

Amazon has kits: bucket, funnel, lock, demi-john - that start at around $300 ! - and as far as I can see they're all imported from the uk.

Had a look online at wally world and crappy tire - and no home brew kit can I find !

So my question is: where can my sister get basic wine making equipment and roughly how much will it cost so I can send her the money ?
All she needs is a 3/4 gallon demijohn (carboy), lock, and probably a syphon.
This would be a few quid over here.

Now I don't need it to get there for christmas - the kit will. But I need to know where she can get it from.
    Cheers :-)

If only a 3/4 gallon carboy is needed, I know WE, down here in the states, can get apple cider/juice in 1 gallon glass jugs at a few stores. Should be able to up there as well.

As far as other stuff, Canada has a few good brew shops to shop from.

I spend aboot 6 months a year there, and homebrew/winemaking shops are everywhere(some sort of tax free sort of deal). They even sell concentrate at the grocery stores... Might be worth a quick search near her town, to find a shop, and see if you could work something oout with them,
Once you go Weber....you never call customer service....

Hey CA I am in northwestern Ontario and I can tell you these kits are easy to find. With her in southern Ontario I am sure there would be a shop close to her.
The bulk spice store I get most of my spice's from has its own little corner dedicated to wine making and supplies. Just google her hometown and wine making supplies and you should come up with some hits.

okay cool - just so long as it's not going to be a hassle for her

          I meant 3 - 4 gallons not 3/4 lol

Actually probably better off with a bucket that has a socket for an airlock.

But as long as it's not going to be a big issue, that was my main concern.
          Cheers :-)

The icewine kit has shipped MH - but thanks for the links
