Well, I can say this was a real treat!! We were 38th overall out of 49 in Franklin, NC. Great contest and a great place to have a contest! This was their first and it had folks from La, Al, Fl and of course the close by states.

Somthing else ain't it? Comp cooking is SOOO different. I'm still deciding if I like it or not. I surely love the folks- they tend to be great and helpful. But the tension and stress can add up near turn in time for sure.
Congrats for surviving! In God I trust- All others pay cash...Check out the Mad Hunky and products at https://madhunkymeats.com or https://www.facebook.com/MadHunkyMeats

I found a recipe about a week before the comp that sounded interesting. It was basicly a biscuit around a jap with sausage and cheese. Saw the scores and was beat out of first by 1.1 points, a salmon dish of some sort.

Congrats Goose!
That is so awrsome to hear especially for someone who is terrified of comps! Though, Ryan and I have talked about doing some next year.. it just seems like there is a huge learning curve for the whole comp thing! You did wonderful!

For those that have been hesitant to jump in a contest....here's what I did. I didn't know if contests were going to be for me (still not sure..lol) so I went to a few and talked with some of the teams. Some will even invite you to join them for a cook. I liked that idea and would have done that except for the guy who built the cooker wanted me to join him in a contest and bring my cooker. We split the fee and did very well for our first one. Go to a contest and talk to the cook teams....most times they will be more than willing to talk to you and give you advice. Then you have to make the choice when do I really want to pull the trigger on this comp thing....and then just do it. You will have fun and meet some really nice folks along the way.
