  • First Pickles of the Year...Oh Yeah!!

So waded through the mud and got this bunch of cucumbers. A pretty good hull, but the wet weather is keeping the flowers from setting...

I cheat and use a premix for dill pickles... this year I used Mrs Wages packet. It is easy and the kids like it... so here they are processed and all sealed up. Some chips, spears, and whole pickles. The fat cukes get speared, the medium get chipped and the skinny/ deformed parts get processed whole..

Let set for a week and time to break open a jar of the chips and enjoy on one of these sandwiches... oh yeah, a pulled pork bark on butts sammy!! yumm!!

I'll take one of those sammies. Nice job on the pickles Brian.

My best asset however is the inspiration from the members on this forum.

I cant proove because of no pics but I'm done pickling cukes for the year. I did 18 quarts last week. I still have 24 quarts from last year so Im not doing as many this year and yes I cheat too. Mrs Wages is the way to go...kosher and the medium spice for me........still cant figure out how you can start eating them the next day When I used to make them the other way they were not really any good until they had aged several months in the jar.

      nice looking pickles
