    what kind of paint do you use on these should i use a primer first

    Well . . . you don't really need to paint them. But if you want to, conventional wisdom has it that any spray paint will do if you plan on keeping it at regular smoking temps.

    Or you can use any regular BBQ paint.

    Or you can get carried away like I did and use Dupicolor Hi Heat Engine enamel. I did use primer first.

    I think Tip also used a high heat ceramic paint and primered first as well. But I think as long as you scuff it first, you could get away with no primer. It's up to you.

        I used Rustoleum black stove paint in quarts on my latest UDS builds. Thinned with a little mineral spirits and shot it through a $10 H-F spray gun. But you can brush it on, too. I liked it better than the spray bombs I had been using.

            I used the high heat bbq paint too. I was going for the little black dress look.
