  • Brinkman vertical smoker ?

Found this on craigslist for 40 bucks.

I was able to find it on the web but it was listed out of stock. Anybody got one and does it suck? There were two reviews. One okay one not.

Apparently only single door access so you let out a lot of heat when adding fuel.

        good, you found the reviews...........

had a buddy get one, ended up taking it back, would'nt get up to temps, and VERY cheaply built. Get a gourmet, do my mods, more space, and you will be happy...........

let us not cry because we lost someone, but let us smile because we enjoyed their company for what time was allowed us!

I've got the Gourmet and have a new coal pan on the way. I looked thru someones sticky about the mods, must have been yours. Just kind of breezed it at the moment. I'll get more into it when I get the pan next week.

When I recently brought back out the mid section my coal pan was already rusted through but we rigged up something with some bricks around the edge to get airflow.

I really like it. Easy to keep temps up and its at my local pub now. My chargriller prolly going to be a grill from now on unless I need the extra space.

That vertical works good once you change the firebox. I used it for a long time and enjoyed it very much.

One thing that should be considered is that you and Rob have a bit warmer climates than us northern folks...that's gonna make a difference in it's performance.

With the different charcoal basket I have pegged my thermometer. If you can't get 220 like that then you shouldn't be outdoors.

I was at Home Depot yesterday pickin up parts for my UDS when I saw a guy lookin at one of these. After reading this post about the 20 out of 21 people unhappy with it, I told him about that and explained the UDS to him. I'm pretty sure I made a convert. While I was explaining the UDS and how it is built another guy walked up to me and wanted help over in the electrical section, thinking that I worked there. What a big joke that was. Home Depot would probably ban me from their stores if they knew how many times over the years I've convinced people to not buy products that are more expensive or won't do what they want. If a cheaper and easier thing will do what they want I hate to see them waste their money on all the bells and whistles of something they don't need.

Thats a shame. Its actually a good smoker once the charcoal basket is changed. I have produced a lot of very good food with it.
