  • Looking for smokers...

    (smoker kings that is)

Unfortunately the water was too warm (85) and there were only shark, Tarpon and Spanish Mackerel.

Still shaking from the day. Over 8 miles paddled with tarpon and Mackerel caught... My buddy jumped a large thresher or spinner shark as well. Photo is blurry. I need a new photographer! It works though!!!

It all started with a nice sunrise.

    The peace was soon shattered.

Lucky for me I had a good coach during the fight. (I think the smile on Dave's face is due to the fact that Mark's pliers are rapidly descending to the bottom of the gulf.)

What a fun fish to catch!

Now how do you get the hooks out?

    Fish for the smoker!

They are a blast to catch. Can't wait to try it again.

I tell you this much. The caption in the photo of the fish jumping should read "OH $#!T" since that was the thought going through my head.

Had a small ride but for big fish I use a drift chute to put extra pressure on the fish.
Also the tarpon spent alot of time 25' under me going in circles.

CA it is an incredible thrill! There is an aspect of danger to it that really makes it a thrill ride. While fighting these Tarpon you have the threat of them jumping on you, getting attacked by sharks (big bulls and hammerheads follow the tarpon) and many other things. Then just to be attached to a fish like that is an incredible experience. Its also very exhausting!
