Has anyone tried one of these? I was thinking of getting another Thermapen, but they discontinued it and are selling a new waterproof version for about 10 bucks more. But then I seen this one, "Combo Thermapen," on sale. I thought it might be handy to check the surface temperature before inserting the probe. It is a bit slower than the original, but I can wait 8 to 10 seconds, and if not I still have my original.

That's kind of cool!!
I wonder though . . . could you just touch the outside of the meat with the original Thermapen to get the surface temp reading or would you have to pierce it slightly to get a reliable temp?

It states it is accurate within 3.6F of the actual temperature...that would work for my needs.Comment
