  • Vinegar Sanitizer

Does anyone use it this way. A friend of mine went to a dutch oven seminar and the presenter really preached using vinegar as a sanitizer throughout the process. It seems logical to me, that we can use it in Qing and sausage making thoughout the process. Should work well being acidic, won't harm flavor (I always wonder about this with bleach solutions and wipes) and is readily available. I use it anyway when smoking birds and other large hanging cuts on the netting and soak hog casings in it. Can't find a whole lot on net search, but what I've found seems positive. Any thoughts good or bad?

Seems to me I saw somewhere to clean your thermo probes with vinegar? It's a pretty amazing liquid really.

yes, it works well, and is pretty cheap. I also use another substance, when dissinfecting things around the house when folks are sick around here. Its called GSE (grapefruit seed extract). We also drink it in a glass each day for our health. 8-10 drops in a 8 oz glass of water, or orange juice, helps keep the colds away. We just started using it a few weeks ago. Seems that hospitals and medical staffs are using it for dissinfecting.

      stuff is pretty bitter.

Seem I have heard it called a "weak" sanitizer. In it's common 5% concentration it wipes out many things, but there are a few bugs it does not touch. I have been interested in H2O2 - hydrogen peroxide... or more correctly hydrogen dioxide as an alt to the chlorine products as well. I think I have a post on it here.

            1/3 part vinegar
            1/3 part alcohol
            1/3 part water
add a few drops of dish washing liquid and it makes a great cleaner/disinfectant.
The alcohol helps to evaporate the water and its dry in no time at all.

              Vinegar is interesting stuff.
It's what the boers used to stop their sausages, biltong etc from spoiling.

For those of you with dogs that have ear problems, half and half vinegar and distilled water, works better than the 15 dollar ear wash from the pet store.
