Thermapen Reliability?

I know quite a few of you have the Thermapen. I was just curious about the reliability of them?.... Can they be calibrated?..... Any problems?..... And most important, which color is the fastest? :)

Red is the fastest and most accurate. If you get a different color, it can be calibrated, but won't be as fast as a red one!

They are pretty foolproof, and very reliable!

Yes they can be calibrated. Gunny posted a thread with the instructions.

But in all honesty, in all of my reading over at the Brethren which is crawling with comp cooks who use Thermapens, I've never read of anyone needing to do it.

And I hate to contradict Capt Dan who is one of my favorite smoking mentors, but I have read that the BLUE Thermapen is the fastest.

Glad I saw this post I almost ordered a gray one but caught myself, the red one is on the way.

I din't think there was any difference in the colors. Does not say so on the site- just one set of specs, and choose your color...

Oh it's a different model... and it seems the yellow (SPLASHPROOF) is 3 seconds where the "red" model is 4?

And the "origional" red is no longer produced. Neither is the Hi accuracy model...ALL replaced by the "splashproof" and color there don't matter it looks like.

I think someone should buy one of each color and do a comprehensive side by side test to see which color is the fastest, I will be willing to buy the losers at a deeply discounted price
