  • Did a little fabricating today

Had a little time to kill today at work so I started my new smoker grates. Almost finished the first one.
I never really liked my expanded metal grates, and always wanted to build new ones. I have to get them done by Christmas because I am smoking CB, BBB, snack sticks, beef bacon, and I'm going to try out the ground meat jerky shooter attachment thingie for my sausage stuffer (full review to follow).

    Here it is so far.

The cut back or inset or whatever you want to call it, is so the grate doesn't interfere with the door latch/handle. Oh, and they're 2ft by 2 ft, and the bar material is 1/4 inch.

That will be a good sturdy grate, for the pit Tom! I like it. Not a big fan of the expanded metal either, but it happens fast. Happy smokes bud!

I was going to use expanded steel. Hey, while your at it, I could use 4 of them 23.5"X46.5". Mine won"t need the notch for the latch. But seriously, they look great, must have taken a while.

It's easier than sausages and less clean-up.

Seriously nice layout Gunny, mine would have been all caddy-wompus. good job!

That's a lot of little rods to weld together. Looks like you were busy. They look great.

Don't know about the weight yet, but it is getting handles tomorrow.

Neither, just mild hot rolled steel. Better grill marks.
