I have a 9+lb butt in the smoker and nothing to do this evening. I looked in the cabinet and discovered some nori sheets that vanished about a year ago...so i went to the store with crab legs in mind only to discover that i can only get them in a $20 box. i dont need that much, screw it, the fake crab flavored fish will do for about 3 bucks. I took these pictures to post on twitter to show a few friends that i do cook more than just BBQ. Later i discovered that s-m is back up and kicked myself for not taking a few more shots. I cooked the rice and cooled it on a baking sheet in the freezer to speed it up a lil bit (no pic) Here are the pics that i managed to get

Leav about 1/3 of the nori open for a good seal

Sliced cukes, matchstick carrots, and crab flavored Alaskan Pollock

    Rolled up

Chilled them for about 1.5 hrs

    Sliced and plated

I have 1 more pic, but the wife would kill me if i posted it...ah she'll get over it :-)

Sounds great. Nice pics. Definitely a lot of possibilities on ingredients too.

That's something I never considered making till now. I tried to get an ethnic food type thing going with my kids last year. The Idea was to once a month all get together and work together creating different dishes ( tapas), well never got them to join me last year, but they were over yesterday for chicken and ribs. We discussed this again because my sons B-Day is in a few weeks and we plan on doing Chinese which was his pick. Although sushi is Japanese I think we may be able to squeeze some of these into the menu. Thanks for the Idea.

Lee, we have done this as well, a little back ground on the country where the food comes from.. Its a great idea! we used to do it on Holidays as well.. I guess I have become lazy and need to get back into it!

Brian, good to see ya posting again! your sushi looks amazing, my neighbor and I did it once, and did not have the bamboo mat.. she had some sushi "mold" thing.. I think the mat is the key for rolling. Ryan makes some killer sushi too.. gotta try this again! Thanks for the post!!
