a block er so down the road. the guy is trimming his orchard he is taking his peacon trees way back.
As I was driving by he and his crew were out there working, so I just had to stop and ask. would you want to sell some of the wood? dam it....he said yes. $20.00 bucks a truck load. went home got the machetes and the chain saw.
glad I have a GMC. since I did not have to drive far. I loaded it up. the boy child and I will sleep good again tonight.

we got to pick and choose. loaded with beer can size and a little larger.

free is always great. and yes, driving around the orchards you can come up with some great deals.
peacan is good. and as the big guy told me the wood is always better that some one else is using and you can not get.lol. as I was asking him about the red oak he use's so smoothly and saying I never heard of it and did not know where to get it.
bassman, hook up with abe I bet he has a sharp chain saw and would help.

it is mellow. I have read that it is the best for all around smokeing.
there is an abundce of peacan in my area also mesquite. and easy to score.
50 miles away and in the mts. is cherry and apple even oak. I have plenty cherry and apple. but the peacan taste the best to me.
I have used oak that I have gotten from old wine and whiskey barrels. and thought it tasted dirty if you will.

Pecan offers a more mild flavor than hickory, and as Kyote mentioned, can be used on pretty much anything. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.
