  • Birth of an 85 gallon UDS

Basically the same as a 55 build, but bigger!
Custom built 18" dia charcoal basket 3" off the floor.

    By imn88fan

Lid didn't have a bung and i HATE all those holes so i drilled a 2" hole and installed my patented PVC threaded adapter and a 8" piece pf 2" pipe for the exhaust!

    By imn88fan

3 intakes, 1 with a 3/4" ball valve and the other 2 with simple magnets.

    By imn88fan

Customized a lid holder from a 6" piece of flat bar.

    By imn88fan

Added a hook for the grate...

    By imn88fan

Stuck in a 12" turkey thermo to read at center right under grate.
    Locked in at 250*

    By imn88fan

So far, acts no differently than the 55.
Was up to temp in 10 minutes with RO charcoal.
Using Mesquite to season the drum.

Once again Steve, you knocked it outta the park....couple questions

the magnets, which i assume are the rubber kind, won't be affected by the heat?

and will you show how you did your exhaust, please. My drum doesn't have a bung either........

Nice Job buster. Is that a two shelf model or just a single story smoker? I'd be interested to see your patented stack system too. Is it just a threaded piece?

                Good lookin Bubba Drum!

bubba, what did you use for a grate?

knowing the 22 inch weber will be too small.

I know I am an idiot, but how do you add lump or wood? Do you have to take out the grates and meat?
                            Stay thirsty my friends!!

I have been saving an old BBQ PRO 26" kettle just for this build!

Not an idiot, just not in the know.....yet.

You don't add fuel or wood, a basket full of charcoal (8 lbs) will burn longer than ANY brisket or butt you will ever cook!
