  • Cord Grip Connector

Is this the item members are using to run their braided cabled temperature probes through the smokers sidewall instead of using the lid or exhaust opening?

Working on a UDS build and the smallest I could find locally were 1/2" and feel a 1/4" to 3/8" would be more appropriate. If I can find the right product I would like to fit other smokers and grills with these also.

Sorry about that, without a pic I am sure my post seems vague or that I am on crack..... I need to quite assuming everyone understands the way I think (twisted !!!) without me going into detail (my bad).

            That looks good.

But I just drilled a hole in mine and made sure it didn't have any sharp edges.

Oh . . . and I knew what you were talking about BEFORE you posted the pic.

A quarter or .375" hole won't hurt much Moss. You could even wrap some foil around the cord and "plug" the hole with it.

And I knew what you meant too ;{)

Yep, just measured mine and it's 1/4". Big enough to get a probe in or out with two probe cables already in. I rarely have more than three probes in at a time.

Hey Mossy, here's what I've been using:

I got mine at Lowes, in the electrical dept. You'll need to drill a 13/16" hole to install it.

BTW, thanks for the wake up PM...

I use the same here also and also got them at Lowes. In addition I encased my probe wire with military grade nyla-braid. Its the stuff that they wrap wires and hoses with. Just a step higher than what NASCAR uses. But it protects that wire and thats what matters. Between the grommet and the braid, I hope my probe wire is protected.

Where do you get the nyla-braid and how easy is it to install? Thanks

I too used the same port that Phil posted about when I built my drum. You can see in the pic that I put two in, one above a grate support on both grates. It lets me run 3 probes for each shelf using the 1/2 in port.
