  • New source for hickory

I hadnt thought of this before...
Getting scarey low on hickory will make you think of new ways to score.
I went into the local Q joint, which sells some pretty respectable chow, and talked with the owner for a while. When I left I had a considerable ammount of hickory in the back of my truck and it only cost me 5 bucks. Thats a good price because hickory dont grow round here. This came from central Arkansas. I hope he will be willing to sell some more in the future...

      Great score, and awesome price!

Got lots of trees on the property but aside from buying certain kinds I have found that if you drive by a company cutting down trees they are usually more than happy to get rid of it for free.
Got a LOT of maple that way last year so always good to keep your eye open.

Now that is using the old grey matter....

I am fortunate to have a friend who clears land just up the road....He supplies the local Joints with wood.

Hickory trees do grow statewide in Kansas. Check along streams, creeks, rivers, irrigation waterways, hedgerows, even the middle of pastures.
