She's My Cherry Pie!

I picked cherries from my tree yesterday, and got a pretty good haul. I suck at gardening, but my fruit trees do pretty good. This year, I am going to have cherries, pears (lots of pears), apples (Granny Smith, Fuji, Jonothan, Mcintosh), plums, and peaches.

Here's a shot at my cherries...man, there are some delicious cherrie pies in my future. I love cherry pie (gooseberries are a close second).



Last year I pitted them all by hand...this year I got a cherry stoner (no, FIU, it isn't a new kind of weed - LOL ).


Cherries feed into the business end of this thing, and then a blade comes down to pierce the cherry and drive the pit through the gasket and into the collection bin.




Man, that made a tough job way more bearable.

ohhh i love cherries nice haul...i do see some cherry pies in your future...like the cherry stoner when i was younger my parents had 3 cherry trees fully grown and we used to get mega hauls every year and we had to stone by hand man that sucked but after about 2 years my dad finally broke down and bought a cherry stoner man that took alot of work out of the equation....

Have a cherry tree in my backyard and when I moved in 15 years ago it grew tons of great cherries. Over the last 10 years it does not grow them anymore. I am guessing that a neighbor used to have a tree so there could be cross pollination but they must have cut it done.

These are sour cherries from my Montmorency Cherry Tree. They make the best pies! I'm looking for a few more decent cherry trees to add to my collection.

I do have a sweet cherry tree too, but it is still pretty small, and only produces a few handfulls of fruit...I plan on being here for a while, so it'll grow.
