  • BBQ and Blues in the Park - July 23 & 24

...in Mount Holly, NJ. This is my next comp... it's coming up really quick! The website says they have 35 teams competing, but also states that they have room for 25 competitors... That will make for an interesting setup...

If anyone is in the area, stop by and say howdy and grab a bite of 'Q!

I am hoping Dover(aug 21.) aint 100 teams again... as they announced date change late and 2 other comps in our region are that weekend....I am tired of these 100 plus team deals and the scrambling for judges they do.....
      Thanks guys!

Not sure if I am gonna do Dover this year. I hear ya' on the 100 plus teams... dat shit gets old.

                          We sucked...

This was a really bad outing for Hawg Heaven... The heat killed us... The ribs and pork were overdone, the brisket had great flavor, but I farked up the box. I picked out the slices individually and layed them in the box. Then, like an idiot, I second guessed myself and decided to go with 3 other slices, and replaced 3 slices in the box. Of course, we were up against the clock, and I did not check to see if the 3 new slices were sliced completely through. They weren't. I found this out when Murray Saltzman came around in a golf cart and told me what I had done. There were some judges that did not get any brisket. I was so embarassed, I could have crawled into a hole and died!

I went outside the box with the chicken this time, using the center sections of wings instead of those damned thighs. That got me a 14th... maybe the judges are just not ready for that yet. I was told by a reliable source that I was the only one who turned in wings...

All-in-all, we scored lousy, butt had a great time doing it. At least we missed last place... barely.

Thanks for all the well wishes prior to the event! BTW, I do have some pictures, which I will get to later this evening... stay tuned!

Man....That brisky mishap surely hurt your finish....Nice job on trying something new on chicken......

The heat was a literal killer this weekend...Kudos for hanging in Phil...
