Hey gang, sorry for the late response, but I just finished cleaning up the aftermath.
First things first, it was a great experience and we met some really great people. We only got to walk once and that was a 13th place in brisket so that part was a little disappointing. Kelly showed up and really helped out huge. We had just come out of an epic 3 hour stall on our butt and she encouraged me to step on the gas and put the coals to Whisky Fish to get her done and rested in time. I think her exact words were something like "you're F%#ked" But we made it and got it pulled with a couple minutes to spare.
All in all I was really proud of our team and everything we put out there. I've got a much better idea now on what we need to do next time and that was exactly what our goal was, so in that sense we were winners. I would encourage everyone here to try at least one competition. There is no way to explain the feeling you get when you see all the real pros roll in with their expensive rigs, matching uniforms and confidence. Just a tad intimidating
Thanks to all for the support and words of encouragement. And a huge thanks to Kelly and Mark. Those two are such a class act and you couldn't ask for two better people to call friends.
I'm working on the pictures and I'll post them as soon as I can.

    Thanks again gang!

lol, the folks with the biggest rigs, and the most trophies finished dead last in the competition I did last month. Its the cook not the cooker.

congrats on competing your first event.
Just because you welded some shit together doesnt make it a WSM.

Well JT, comp's, just like everything else are a learning experience and have a curve. You'll get to where ya want to be in your own time. Don't rush it. Enjoy the ride and tips along the way. Every comp is different. Judges, just like the weather and cuts of meat are never the same. Any pic's available of your turn-in box?

Just wait- you'll improve. It's REALLY neat walking past them up the asile for a ribbon ;{)

While I certainly believe that it's the cook not the cooker I'll tell you having good equipment doesn't hurt at all. I've won two contests this year with one WSM. Overall it's one of the best cookers money can buy!!

Now with that said.....Nice work. It gets in your blood for sure!!! Above all have fun or don't do it!!
