  • Broken Pizza stone

    Hey Guys & Gals

Long time, no posting for me. I trust all of you are well.

I recently put a pizza stone (that was used many times in an oven) into my gas grill to make pizza. (yes, shame on me for even having a gas grill.).

I cranked up the heat, and it broke. No real reason...other than possibly heating it up too fast - not really sure though.

It was an El Cheapo stone for the record.

Are there any "rules" or recommendations for heating a pizza stone on the grill?

Does anyone have a brand / model that has been especially good for them?

Thank you in advance, as always. Fat Head Carl.

I had a BB&B cheapo stone that broke in the sink in cold H2O, no it was not hot or warm. I since found them at a commercial restaurant supply, 3/4" and much better quality and results. They say Old Stone Oven on the bottom. About $37. I have the rectangular stones(2).

Also saw this fitted for a Webber 4471, cool. Made for a grill.

I've been using them regularly for about year with no problems and much better results, they hold the heat. I actually had to turn the oven temp DOWN for pizza.

I have a Pampered Chef stone, but have never used it on the grill. I have heard the Pampered Chef brand is prone to breaking at higher temps also.

Get a patio stone. A large one. Cheap and work better than a majority of the thinner stones that are out there for purchase as an "actual" pizza stone.

i posted this earlier on fishawns thread that he did on a pizza ...got this info from another forum and this guy recommends to elevate the pizza stone on atop of some bricks and then get it nice and hot and that should eliminate the breakage of the stone hopefully..
