Hello, I just stumbled upon this sight while looking for information about smoking and smoker use.
    I have a Char-griller Smokin Pro, (I know, I know).
I have been reading about the Reverse Flow Smokers on various sites and wonder if anyone has done that Mod on the Char-griller.

Welcome c51...glad to have ya aboard...
I too cook on the CG and have for many years...For the price it is a fine unit and will crank out many excellent meals...
The easiest cheapest mod you can do is to flip the charcoal rack over so it curves up instead of down...make sure to have a half inch or so gap all the way around...this will even out the temps from end to end a lot...Kinda a PIA if youre plannin on using it for a charcoal grill too but I did it for years...Then I bought a new charcoal pan from the website to make the switch easier...Then I bought another CG to use as a grill so I didnt hafta switch...

Learn how to not make too big of fire in it and it will do fine...
    Any questions just ask...

Welcome aboard neighbor, so glad you found us. There are a few on here that have some mods for your smoker and would be glad to share their idea with you. Where in Iowa are you at? I am a few miles North of Hwy 63 in Minnesota.

Welcome, sir- to Smoked-Meat. Yep- there are a few mods to be made to the CG to make it sing. Look thru the "Charcoal smokers" forum- I think Mr Hawg has addressed it? Anyway...ENJOY!

Welcome aboard! I used to have CG and smoked much good stuff for years on it. It finally rusted out and I used the parts (firebox) to make somethin better. They can be reverse flowed, really helps. One of the perpetrators will be along shortly to show the true shining path.

                  Welcome smc51!
Yes I did mod my CG into an RF. Works beautifully. Very even temps. I also added a couple more air vent to the firebox, one on each side. The stock air inlet just doesn't let enough in. I have some pics if you want them. Basically I just put a 1/4" steel plate across under the cooking surface, with a gap at the end opposite the firebox. Then moved the outlet stack to the firebox end and patched the original hole. I scrapped the original grate in the firebox, would bend with a fire on it. Made the new one so it would sit higher.

Good point. Even with the two new vents sometimes I still have to leave the ash drawer cracked open. Really stokes the fire.
