  • Best vacuum sealer?

I currently have an older food saver that has served me well for the last 8 years. Me being me and like the robustness of commercial stuff was wondering what the best vac sealer is for the money.

You know the best bang for the buck.

A friend of mine just gave me a package of jerky that he had made from a local shop and the vac bag looks like it has been is drawn down 3 times what mine look like.

I'm not talking about a $1000 unit, but was thinking I would hand mine down to one of my kids if I stumbled upon a good deal on a better unit.

Guess I just wondered what folks are using and what I should be looking out for.

    Thanks

What are you willing to spend? Like anything, they can be had at all price points. The commercial packers use chamber style machines. I don't think you can get into one of them for much less than $1500.

I have to retract my earlier statement too, ARY now makes a homeowner model chamber machine and Cabelas carries it:

            Best bang for the buck

            Not looking to spend $1000's

I'm probably thinking 3-400 for a used or refurbished type of unit.

The question was primarily put out there becasue i know there are of buch of folks here that use vac sealers alot, and I just wanted to see what everyone else uses.

Single piston, double piston, ect. I really don't exactly know what features to look for in a higher end sealer.

The one i have now is a Foodsaver Vac550.

I guess I don't know why a person would spend $300-$400 on a sealer when one for under $100 would do the same. The model of foodsaver that you have now is pretty old in terms of updates that foodsaver has done. We have 3 different models with a 4th on the way (the one for $25) and they all work great. Our packages are sealed just as tight as anything you would buy in the stores off the shelves.

We process with family and do approx 10-12 deer in a weekend with everyone and have been using all the same sealers for the past 4 yrs. We run 3 at a time because we have extra people to help. I am sure if we only had the 1 it would still work fine. Not to mention we use it yr round for a ton of other foods as well.

The one feature I do like is the hands free operation one. You can be sealing one bag and getting the other ready. But it isn't a deal breaker if I didn't have that.

We have about 6 food savers in our group that makes sausage every year. My brother and I have the newer vertical ones and we hate them!. I also have an older one along with some of the other guys and they work great. This picture of the black one is similar to the one my brother and I have that we hate.

I agree with you rbranstner - we have this model too but we don't count it. We hate it as well! It is frustrating as all get out to get that thing to grab the bag and when it does finally take it you waste a lot of the bag for as much as the machine takes in to seal. I would highly recommend to people to stay away from the stand up model like the one you picture. It looks great on the counter but that is about it...

                        vacupack

Thanks erain, does your vacupack have a model number?

I like some of the features of vacupack line.

Also seen one on ebay made by "Sinbo" uses a different bag that is cheaper than the roll type.

Any one here have a weston vac sealer?

They seem to have good reviews but cant use foodsaver style bags.
