  • Any tips for a newb at growing peppers?

I got these seeds and am planning on using small pots to grow them in so how many seeds should i put in each pot and is regular potting soil good? Any help would be cool, thanks

I guess we could use a bit more info. Are you planning on transplanting them to larger pots, or a plot of ground? What do you have available for space? Etc...
Once you go Weber....you never call customer service....

I start a few in a cold box...Also buy Hybrids from Lowes...my soil is basic beach sand...Louie uses raised beds with the Miracle grow soil...backed off on the stuff with the released fertilizer in it cause it will burn the small ones...workin with the ALX compost gig...think i'll have a nice mess of it next year...

alex is the MG so wait until he chimes in but i think those pots are a little too small and do well i sandy soil.......also peppers like to be stressed if you want some heat.

you may be able to get a couple plants per gallon container. The root balls are only about the size of a hardball. Keep the hot ones away from your sweet ones or they will cross. A give them a couple tsps. of epsom salt around the drip edge, they like magnesium.

Here is my take on this...
First of all, pepper seedlings do well with crowded roots, unlike tomatoes which need lots of root room to thrive...
I plant my pepper seeds in those 4 pak or 6 paks that you can get from the nurseries...Plant 2-3 seeds per pot and thin to single plants when they begin to crowd themselves...When they have about three sets of leaves I transplant them into about 6-8 oz cups...While they may not mind having crowded roots they dont like having their leaves cramped...Lots of light is a must...when soil is warmed and nights are above 60 degrees, I put them into the garden...Fertilize with an organic fertilize sparingly as to much nitrogen will give you amazing plants with few peppers...

                  Good luck

Man I wish Richoso was around, he's got some pepper knowledge too.
One thing I found out about growin peppers is let em thrive while the plant is growin but starve em when the peppers set, more dry heat is better while they are developing. And yeah growin them in the ground is better than pots but I've grown some pretty good cayennes in pots, , , Jalepenos, , ,not so much.

they will do better in the ground or a raised bed.....i've had the same pepper plants for 4 years now. they just got bit with a pretty bad frost so i'll have to see if they will come back this year. being where you are you should have the same luck. i also have a plant (thai) in a 1/2 barrel for the patio that sems to be doing well. i do think the larger plants with the big leaves will benefit from the ground or raised beds.

I need to do some reading i guess, hell i would think the plant would not know the difference between being in a pot or in the ground if the pot had enough dirt in it. oh well i dont know but thanks for the help so far everyone
