  • Looking for someone to custom fab me a little branding iron

One of you artistic type welder type guys :-)
And we've got a few now.

Haven't got the design yet but I want something around an inch and a half by maybe an inch to burn a custom design onto the back of my sling pouches.
Preferably a stylised aardvark head like my avatar - but if that's too complicated then a stylised CA wll do fine.

Got a nice sling design I'm using and making increasingly more and giving them away. So just looking for something to put a real custom feel to them.

Leather - brand - just seems right :-)
    Cash money :-)

    So, any takers ?

If your not in any rush for it I can do it once I get set-up in Arizona....I would think AZceller could whip that out real quick for ya tho...I'm sure he will chime in. If not once you get a design let me see it.

        CA...

        Check out www.shapeways.com

I'll help w/ the 3D modeling if you need it, but they are a cheap way to get custom "printed" stuff. I've used them to make designs used to burn into wood working projects.

Or find it on the net somewhere ?

So yep that would be brilliant.

i'd be up for it, but i can guarantee that it wouldn't be cheap. between having a piece cutsom cut for it, on top of shipping, it would rack up a good sized price tag pretty cheap. if you want me to persue it, just let me know. i'd be happy to do it, but don't want to waste your time or get your hopes up for a cheap investment.

however, you COULD also use it as a meat branding iron...

Yes I drew it (on computer). Was thinking Iron bar and pipe sections should make it pretty easy to make. Maybe find a blacksmith over there. Feel free to use, If you need changes or hi-res artwork holler.

You might want to try Die Cutting steel for a nice fine image when used on leather. Just my 2 cents...

I plan ahead, that way I don't do anything right now.

my thoughts exactly... at lest 1/2" thick for heat retention purposes, and have someone laser-cut it... plasma will be too ragged of an edge usually. O/A is not even an option...

CA, how big would this "branding iron" be?

small - about an inch and ahalf by an inch or so.
Might be able to make it a little bigger - I'll need to measure the free space on the back of the pouches. But definitely not longer than 2 inches
(looks at gauge on gerber) inch and a half looks about right for length and whatever the proportional width on that would be.

Postage shouldn't be that much. I don't want the whole 3 foot handle. Just a little piece at the back I can grip with a pair of pliers would be ideal.
I'm planning to heat it up with my mini lighter/blowtorch.
                      1300 oC should be enough ? 2372 f

Shouldn't be looking at more than about 4-6 0z total weight ? if that.

That's what I thought, well actually smaller than I thought. Hmmm, have to think on it.

I'm thinkin that would be the route I'd go. I'll think on how to do one myself but pursue other avenues. I'm a graphic designer, not a blacksmith/welder. But I can burn some wire!

Ideas are good - but I'm actually looking for someone to make me one :-)

Still got plenty of dollars and doesn't look like I'm going to get a holiday this year, so they're available for posting :-)

So if anyone wants to give it ago - please do !

I'll see if I can find any ornamental blacksmiths round here. But never heard of any.
