  • Grill at Sam's club

Anybody know anything about that combo grill they sell at sam's club? It has an infared grill and a gas grill and a charcoal/smoker. I think they want 250.00 or something. Looks like an all purpose unit . Let me know what ya think.

You will regret having bought it if you do. Its super lightweight metal, doesn't seal up well, is generally poorly built, and will last you 4 years, if you are lucky.

    Just my 2 cents.

you should really look into buying a custom smoker/grill from Blackshirt BBQ... i hear they are pretty good.

Maybe think about looking into the 22.5" Weber kettle. They are ultra versatile, well built and will last a long time. New they are under $100 and can be had used on CL sometimes for free and often times for less than $50, at least in my area. They can also be used for long cooks with a little effort.

Thanks for the input. The wife wants to get me a new grill as we use it hard. I want a smoker. This seemed like a solution.
I did not look at this thing yet and it is probably another china pile of crap, but it seemed to fit both worlds.
I guess I need to get separate units unless somebody knows of a unit .

You can't go wrong with a Weber 22.5 kettle, and you would still have some cash leftover if you really had to buy a gasser....

good call Irish chef, Ive got (2) 22.5" Kettles.

Kettle can defintely smoke, especially easy with the hinged cooking grate.
Just because you welded some shit together doesnt make it a WSM.

what fuel source does she want? I assume gas? if so, there are a couple of good ways to do a smoker/grill combo (on that can do charcoal, as well as gas), but none that are commercially available (that i know of anyway). If she wants gas, the kettles are out...

She likes gas for the ease of use. I like charcoal .Sometimes when I get home from work late the gas is nice and easy.
The weber looks nice, but the wife won't use it so I will be doing it all.
                  It's a tuff call.
                  What's the homebuilt options

My current Weber gasser is 9 years old & going strong & have used it a lot..... Nice to have in the winter months, when its raining or when limited on time..... But, it's Spring-Summer now..... I do know that I have yet to see a reliable, convenient way to smoke on a gasser, that gives even half assed decent results consistently..... You can get coals pretty quickly if you use a weed burner to light them(bout the same time as it takes to preheat a gasser). And you always know how much charcoal you have when you start the grill, hard to say that with gas.....

The optional hinged grate for the 22.5" kettle is a nice option when you need to add either fuel or wood..... Some folks have done butts & briskets on their kettles, I have not, but may try it soon..... They are also very forgiving if used indirect & will smoke like hell with a little wood on the fuel..... Damn, I wanna go out & fire mine up now

Well like Rich said, you can find used Webers on Craigslist fairly often. Have seen them myself for as little as 25 bucks or so.
