  • New guy from VA

Hey everyone. My name's Chris (obviously, lol). I'm in southeast VA, in Chesapeake. You can pretty much call me a rookie at smoking meats. I've helped my brother cook on his barrel smoker a few times. But, I'm diving in head first. I'm just now finishing up building a trailer smoker. I used a 150 gallon oil drum, and built a firebox off the back of it. I actually found this site, looking for plans to build it. Somewhere on here I found a smoker building calculator, and followed it to the T. Just built my first fire in it yesterday to season it (found how to season it on here too). Seems to be holding temp good. Here's a couple of pics that I took during the build. I still have a few things to do to it, but the hard parts are done.

Thanks for the welcome man. I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions in the near future. Most answers I'll be able to find by searching, but I'll be sure ti ask if I can't.

Yea, gotta love the Chesapeake Bay area.

Thanks Hunter. Hopefully in the next couple weeks. Looks like thunderstorms for the next week. I still gotta make the cooking grates too. I can do that in the garage though.

Chris, glad you found us. Nice build ya got going there. Can wait to see some quality Q come off that bad boy

As you already know, lots of info on here. A simple search usually leads to the answer ones seeks. But, if it doesn't, don't hesitate to ask. Someone will always jump in and lend a hand if needed.

Thanks alot y'all. I still got alot if stuff to do to it before I pull it down the road. Still debating on what color I want to paint it. Thinking about going up to Sherwin-Williams and getting some high heat gloss red for the smoke tank, bbq black for the firebox, and gloss black for the trailer. I'm kinda digging the silver stacks though. Lol.

You and me both brother. Like I said, I'm new to this smoking thing. Gonna start small at first, before I host a party. Learn how to keep the fire burning at the same temp all day is gonna be new for me.
