  • Attention Maverick ET-73 Owners!

While at the comp last weekend, I found myself short one thermo while trying to smoke all that meat. I got to thinking, "Hey, I have a spare meat probe for my ET-73, why not plug it into the smoker jack and use it as a meat thermo instead of a chamber thermo...?"

I don't know if anyone has tried this, butt I did, and it worked very well! It gave me readings of two pork shoulders on the remote receiver unit. COOL!! The only thing missing was the reading on the transmitter.

Sorry if this isn't an earth-shattering, new, amazing discovery, and has been done a million times, butt someone out there might not know it...

I wonder why it didn't read on the transmitter?

        That is good information, Phil.

When I got my ET-73, I didn't like the short cable leads so I ordered two food probes with 6 foot cables. The customer service lady confirmed that they would work fine in either port so that's the way I use mine. Which is nice since I managed to screw up the oringinal smoker probe.

It should show both on the transmitter, it would just alternate back and forth between the two temps.

I did this with my 3 drum smoke over easter to monitor 2 chamber temps at once. It worked fine. Had to adjust the alarms accordingly.

Phil, I agree with Dave. On mine the transmitter alternates back and forth between the two temps. Of course it doesn't tell you which is which, but that really shouldn't be a problem unless your receiver is kaput.

if you look at the reciever, it will tell you which is which.......smoker or food........you should then be able to tell the difference........

Yup, you guys are right... it alternates between the two on the transmitter. It just so happened that both roasts were the same temp for quite awhile, and I didn't even think about the alternating... DUH!! My bad...

I just used the receiver end anyway...
