  • Smoking woods (green or aged)

I was wondering if it makes a difference if you us fresh cut wood chunks or if you use well seasoned wood for smoked flavor. I have always used well seasoned wood my self, but some one I met on the weekend says he only uses the green stuff says it adds better flavor.

    thanks

Not sure what flavor he is looking for ...Maybe Creosote?? Stick with seasoned wood. Green wood your burning off the sap thats in the wood and that will leave your meats tasting bitter.

Seasoned only, green wood can be used in big high temp cookers built fer it, but nothin we all got. Seen a show how one feller uses nothin but green mesquite wood, said it was very hard on the smoker.

Stick with the dry stuff, yall be happier!

i may use fruitwood green & lay it on the top of the firebox to heat or preburn it,but never skeet or hickory green. you even have to watch out for green chunks in the bags of chunks from the store.
