  • smoked popcorn? yes, smoked popcorn....

if anyone's interested, here's how, from the little chief smoker recipe booklet:

Smoke flavor 1 cup popcorn or wild rice for 30 minutes. Use mixture of 2/3 Apple and 1/3 Cherry “Chips ‘n Chunks.” Place in mason jar and add 2 Tbsp. water, cranberry, pineapple, orange or other fruit juices (experiment to your taste) for each cup smoked corn or rice. Seal for 1 week. This replaces the moisture removed by the smoker and is required for good kernel popping, Pop in normal manner. Salt and butter to taste. You can’t buy this in stores. Dynamite!
obviously, this can be adapted for any smoker ~ basically, if you can do cheese, nuts etc, you can do this as well. i haven't tried it, but in the back of my mind i say, why not?

Hmmm bet if ya cold smoked it it would not have to be soaked? Interesting!

The MH rub goes well with popcorn..I bet this would be better!

smoked popcorn with MH rub as a topping - sounds pretty good to me ~

the little chief, as we've been discussing on anotehr thread, is somewhee between hot and cold ~ i am sure that true cold-smoking would eliminate the need for the liquid, but then agian, it probably woudln't hurt, since it's a pretty small amount and, if juice or something is used, could impart some interesting complimentary flavour.

if anyone tries this, i'd like to know how it goes - i might try it, next time the little chief is set up ~

Has anyone tried this yet? If not, I'll see if I can the next time I use one of the 'Chief's to smoke some cheese or something....AMNSP would probably work, too....

Man, I've had the stuff to do it sitting on top of my fridge since you originally posted this, but I keep forgetting to.

Maybe if I remember I'll drag out the smoker tonight and do it.

Hopefully the popcorn kernels are still good. do they go bad?

Damn, I was afraid of that. Even if they're sealed still?

If they are actually sealed then I would think they'd be fine. I buy popcorn in a big container at Costco and fill jars with it and seal them via foodsaver. Keeps it fresh. Makes a huge difference in teh quality of the popcorn. Yeah, if it isn't in a bag that could leak and is actually sealed in a jar or something I a sure it will be fine.

Yeah, they're in a bag, so probably no good anymore. Oh well.
