  • Refilling McCormick Glass Grinders

Did a google search on this subject, and low and behold, a couple threads on it. Since Kyoto was mentioning recycling, as in the plastic ketchup bottles, what better way to recycle these, but by refilling em.

You will need small screwdrivers, or as one suggestion in the threads i looked up, was a butter knife.

locate the glass lip.......this pic is fuzzy, but the following pic will clarify.

start by inserting the screwdrive str8 up

    and pry out abit

the two thread i followed, said to twist a couple revolutions, and the cap will come off. I found that i had to use the screwdriver around the cap, prying as i went. gently.

you can either refill with peppercorns, or other spices. I will post the links, as there is some discussion on what you can put in these. Also that the grinding mech. will wear out. But one fellow said, he's been using the same disposable grinder for several years. The plastic IS quit hard.

after filling the grinder, place the lid on top, and press down, till is snaps back in place.

One more glass container, kept outta the landfills for abit longer. Hope you enjoyed the tutorial.

    Now for the two links.

on a side note, i tried this with a el cheapo plastic grinder, and didn't have success. Maybe one of you will have success, and report back.

    thankx for looking.

Has anyone done this several times? I tried this a couple of years ago and found the burs in the grinder were worn down after the second load to the point it wouldn't grind well. Maybe it's time to try it again.

Seems like in the long run a pepper mill is easier and cheaper. However, I've been know to lift one of these from Outback on occasion.

very true..........but i LOVE this size............easy for momma to stick in her purse..........i LOVE fresh ground pepper..........and some resturants, that we can AFFORD atm, dont have fresh ground.............

also as that link suggested, i plan, in the mcCormick, and my home grinder, to put toasted whole cumin along with the peppercorn mellange
