Well been hitting Lake of the Woods for the last 3 weekends. Never really took much for pics this year but i took a bunch this w/e. Lets start out with the subject. Fresh walleye fillets, these are in a whisked egg.
and here after the corn bread shore lunch has been applied. I thought i would share a tip with you all, have a gallon ziplock with your breading o choice in it, lay your egg washed fillet on top of the breading and holdin bag upright tap bottom of bag with hand to get the bottom side coated. now from the bottom hold the fillet in place innside the baggy. turn the bag uside down(Scott, ya wanna make sure you got it sealed...) let the breading drop to the "top side of fillet" and the turn rt side up again and the breading will fall down on the side not breaded yet. i think you all can catch the drift but i sort of figured this out today and is alot neater. makes for more evenly breaded fish and looks real nice...
pan fry in butter...
meanwhile get some BC (Betty Crocker) loaded taters going. gonna have to try and duplicate these from scratch cause i love em.
also a bag of frozen garden green beans into some water and bring to boil.
so getting this put together set the cooked fish on paper towels or napkins...
drain the beans and add butter and salt/pepper.
remove the taters from oven...
plate it up and eat!
here a few pics from the lake from the past cupla weekends. My old Eskimo portable shack which was pretty well shot. i found a brand new skin for it on ebay for 95 bux, is like brand new now!
and my Otter thermal which i bought last year on sale. these new thermals no matter what the brand are awesome.
up until this past weekend had been pulling them out with the snowmobile. note the shacks in the background. that pic was taken when there wernt too many out yet.
This past w/e the ice was thick enuff to do some ice road trucking (yup it needs a wash). I built the compartment on top of the trailer is for sliding the flip ups in to avoid all the road crime.
first w/e i never took camera with and we had to work to catch keeper fish, mostly too big, lotsa slot fish 24 inches or so... 2nd weekend we tried a different area and i got these, the smallest are saugers(they have the spotted dorsal fin).
for the people down south, or who never been ice fishing, what it looks like. hole drilled in the ice...
for those wondering how we drill them holes... took this one just for you Maggsie!
this is a flasher designed specifically for ice fishing, the transducer is on a float which you put in one of the holes. you are allowed to fish 2 lines when ice fishing except on designated trout lakes.
caught these on friday, took these back to the cabin i had rented and we fried em up. they were a still a bit on the smaller side and i was starting to wonder...
when late fri evening i jigged this one in... 27.5", released the big girl to have a ton of babies.
and then Sat. i pailed these. tried a different spot a bit shallower and had more action expecially afternoon. prob released around 8 slot fish as well as a bunch of these.
thanks for lookin at me cookin!
