Just getting around to posting this, but last weekend, we did 4 racks of Spare ribs and a small 2.5 lb Tri Tip for dinner party with some friends. Since I had 4 racks, I decided to try some different rubs and compare. I used MH GP on 2 racks and Bone Sucking Rub on 1 rack and a brand I picked up a while back at BBQ Island called "Eat" rub.
Got em tagged for easy reference
After coming out of the foil for a little firming up. I did them with a 2.5, 2, 1 method. Used the Johnny Trig foiling method as described on Robs website with Parkay, Honey and Chilula instead of Tiger sauce (dont have any), but I really love Chilula.
Off the smoker & ready to eat.
The Tri Tip cooked to 135 degrees and got a quick sear on the Big Bahanga. It was rubbed with a combo of Totanka dust and some garlic, onion, and lemon & herb powder.
Just the way we like it.
The side dishes - Broccoli, Garlic Bread & Mrs. Otis' Cheesy potatoes.
From here on, I didnt get any more pictures. I got bit by the clock and the Seagram's V.O. bug so I had to let the troops dig in.
The rib rub comparison was very close with the MHGP rub taking top honors with the guests over the Bone Sucking Sauce rub. The Eat brand tasted better on the finger test than it did on the finished ribs. It was good, but not in the same class as the other 2 rubs. SO once again, MH takes the prize, but it was a close one to the surprising Bone Sucking rub. What can I say about the Tri Tip that the pics dont already tell? There wasn't any of that left for lunch the next day. We had to settle for some left over ribs, but sometimes you just have to sacrifice, LOL.
Thanks for looking
