  • Recommend a outdoor canopy..

Been looking around and can't seem to find what I want in the dimensions I need. Heigth is the main problem. The exhaust stack of my trailer rig just fits under my 7' garage door. Most of the EZ Ups are like 6'2 or so unless I get into the Eclipse models which get up around $1000 or so

I would sacrafice ease of set up for something that fits dimension wise. Interested mostly in keeping the rain off the wood storage box and main cooking chamber. If the entire rig isn't covered I can live with that.

But then again with rain usually comes wind which renders most canpoies useless anyhow. Reviews seem to be all over the place depending on peoples expectations.

I already have the capability of using a 9' patio umbrella but it only covers about half the cooking chamber and none of the wood storage box. You get the idea from the pic but maybe this is as good as anything out there.
    Any suggestions or input?

Could you make leg "extensions" from PVC pipe like folks do with prep tables to raise them up?

I just looked at my EZ-UP and the leg bases have those square "feet" on them for stability, which might need to be cut/ground off for a small diameter PVC to fit? Just thinking oot loud....

How about 4 cinder blocks, lengthwise-, drilled to accept a quarter inch bolt/wingnut to secure the feet to the blocks?

Have an EZ-UP and a Coleman; the construction of the Coleman has heavier gauge metal in the legs which will make lifting the leg with PVC a more stable canopy.

Yeah I thought of that too. I might be looking for more trouble than it's worth. I know it dosen't take much more than a breeze to get these canopys in motion. One collapse on my pit and it will certainly have a hole in it.

Have you considered framing the trailer and having a custom canvas made to fit?

Another good idea Richtee. Drawback would be if the are totally anchored to the ground a good wind gust will twist the crap out of it I'm guessing.

Thats a possibility as well but custom always = big $$. I guess I'm finding reasons to talk myself out of this

Gusset ties would help. Cross sides with cable/cord across 3 sides in an "X" fashion. Perhaps re-inforce upper structure with half inch EMT conduit.

Everybody will think this is a dumb idea, but how 'bout trimming a few bottom limbs off one of those big pine trees, attach a few 2 X whatevers, and build a roof under it.
Kind of a Tree-house without the house???

Man...I got one of those portable vehicle covers...think I paid about 200 bux...Use it for all kinds of things & have stuck my pig cooker under it. My Dad has one with 5 gal. buckets filled with concrete to keep his weighted down for his boat...I help him take the tarp off in case of high winds...
