  • $50 DIY automated pit Controller - "Beaver queefer"

    So,

I got asked if i could design a cheap PID Pit Controller.
    here it is

Beavers PID BBQ Controller by Brett Robinson, on Flickr

    Parts
    (look them up on ebay)

PID Controller + Thermocouple - 12V -24V DC AC Digital PID Temperature Control Controller 2 Omron Relay Output
    Fan/Blower - White Brushless DC Cooling Blower Fan 12V 40X40X20mm 4020S New
Relay - 12V DC Bosch Style 20A/30A Car Auto SPDT Relay Harness
Power Supply - AC 100-240V DC 12V 4.0A Adapter Converter Power Supply

total price should come to about $49.50

you of course would want to put it all in a nice box ect ect so for an extra 10-15 dollars you could get nice mounts, power supply sockets and a nice way to attach the fan to the bbq

with a little bit of electronic knowledge putting this together would be very easy.

So if I read your schematic correctly, this would be a fan on/off type controller, correct? It's interesting.

OK seeing stuff like this is why I kick myself for getting a liberal arts education. I have no idea what's going on.

        Yes, it's a fan on/off controller.
I'm not quite there yet on how to program up a multi speed fan one.
My next project is to design a pit Controller that is remotely configurable and can be monitored.
Similar to the stoker but a lot cheaper.
I would love to design an auger pellet feeder but that's a little while off

Have a read up on PID controllers on wiki. It takes a little while to get your head around but once you do you can apply that knowledge to a lot of things (like my multicopters)

For those out there thinking "there is no way i could learn this"
I never went to unit and this is only a recent hobby for me.
You just need a little bit of patience
