  • ThermoWorks BlueTherm

After going through 3 or 4 replcement probes plus reliability problems with my Maverick I finally I tossed it. Just recieved my new BlueTherm from ThermoWorks! Very cool, downloaded the app for the app store and connected the via bluetooth.

I tested it's BlueTooth range at about 50' which is plenty for my needs

Next I tested the accuracy against my Super-Fast GREEN ThermoPen and it is every bit as accurate and nearly as fast.

Smoking a 10lb Brisket this Saturday when it will be about 104 outside. Sure will be nice to sit in the shade, tip some frosty cold ones and monitor it on my pad or phone. The cool thing is there is a PC app that monitors and charts the probes temps and spits out graphs and charts on the entire cook process. Gonna have to borrow a BlueTooth laptop from work and check that out next time... or maybe this time!

It's no cheap date but it it performs like the ThermoPen, I will be very happy for a long time!

I know a lot of folks praise them, but not for me.... I use Thermoworks probe thermos & the ultra fast Green Thermapen ..... Works for me...

Put it in a box. I'll send samples of all I got.

Time was...I'd then make a video of me blowing the thermo up...but I can't do that any more...

Thanks for the heads up on the new BlueTherm. I am looking forward to hearing how it works out for you this weekend.

P.S. Sorry to hear you are stuck with the Super Fast Green ThermoPen as my Ultimate Speed Orange ThermoPen is so fast that when I open it the temperature is already there.

Ya know... I looked for like 5 hours a couple years back trying to find out what Cap't Dan was talking about.

Very nice.... I didn't realize it has a graph option that monitors the whole cooking process. That right there makes me want to get one myself. Ill be sure to see what you have to say before I make a purchase though. Good Luck this weekend.

                      Use Report:

The BlueTherm worked like a champ. Set the low and high alarms for both temp probes and had alarms a few times overnight. The range on the Bluetooth is typical at about 40-50 feet which is fine. When I left the immediate area it only took a few seconds to re-connect and get reading going again.

Started the smoke at 2am and it finished at 11am. A little disturbed that my 9.75 lb brisket only took 9 hours to come to 195 and I did verify temp with my GREEN ThermaPen so I was certain there wasn’t a problem with the BlueTherm. Anyway, it's wrapped up now like a baby in the cooler. 2 hours till gastronomic party time. This is my first brisket so I am hoping all is awesome.

Side note: I brought home a laptop from work and loaded the PC software and received an error when pairing so no charts or grafts this time. I contacted ThermoWorks and sent them a screenshot so they can debug the problem and send me an update when complete. Great techs there, easy to work with.

Thanks for post and update. Been waiting for this for a few years! Although, I was hoping they would push the data up via wi-fi so I can view it even when I leave the house - then I can 'coach' (ask very nicely) to go adjust the UDS. (my large vertical never needs to be adjusted!)

My maverick won't die but its range is basically only 'line of sight' and it works. But with my USD and large vertical I really just use the Tel-Tru and then TP for the meat. (too easy) I also have a digi-que now for my larger vertical with zero wireless output capability that is great, too.
