    Trout Fillets (KISS)

My Son finally brought me a few Trout Fillets.

This year the only ones I get are the ones that don't stay alive long enough to make it to his back yard pond.

Mrs Bear wasn't home, and I didn't feel like making sides, so Trout is it!!

    I kept it simple:
Soaked in salt water over night.
Then in cold clear water for a few hours.
Then into a frying pan with a bunch of butter.
Sprinkled some MHGP on them for a little added flavor.
Flipped over a few times until a fork slid through easily.

Mighty Tasty for PA State Stocked Trout !!!

Nice, Bear! You're taking me back to my youth. I can remember these roadside trout farms (I'm thinking around Yellowstone, that part of the country) we used to pass on summer vacations. They give you the poles and bait, the kids go catch some trout, they clean and fillet them, and you grill them in an electric griddle that plugs into the picnic table. They provide everything else. That was fun. 45 years ago.

There is a trout farm down the hill on 89A, just before you get into Sedona. I'm going to have to make a pilgrimage now. Looking forward to it!

Why do you soak them if you don't mind me asking, I have about 6 lbs of trout fillets we caught last week. they come from fresh water with no gas motors allowed. The water is supper clean. Just asking?

I never fished at any of the "Pay to fish" places around here.
There are stocked streams all around PA, and even some "Natural" Trout streams.

I got that from my Dad. He always did that to draw out any muddy taste in catties, and to draw blood out of other fish. Shad Roe needs it bad!!
We always do it with Rabbit, Pheasant, Squirrel, etc, to draw the blood out. With the small game animals, we make a little knife cut in the blood clotted areas, so the salt water can draw out the blood.

Brings back memories for me too, growing up in north-central PA. The first day of trout season each year was HUGE! Have a lot of stories, and some years there was still snow on the ground as we hiked through the mountains where the stocked streams were. Great times, and always a blast. Then back home to cook up the catch!
Lang 36 Patio, a few Webers, 2 Eggs, plenty of gadgets and a MES 40 Gen 2.5 electric for bacon and sausage.
My best asset however is the inspiration from the members on this forum.

Yup, When I was a kid, we had a cabin on State Forest in Pike County, and we all went up there for the first weekend. Had to walk 3 miles to get to "Red Rock Run", but it was worth it because we could fish all day and only run into 3 or 4 guys that we didn't know. Had the whole creek to ourselves.

Then when I was in my late teens, and the season opened at 5 AM, I & a few Buddies used to camp out in the woods, on the banks of Cook's Creek, knocking down some cold ones all night until 5 AM. What a riot.
One time we saw our High School Vice Principal get his line caught on a root in the water, and while trying to free it, he fell in. Never laughed so hard!!!
His face got red every time we'd pass him in the halls at school.

                      Memories-Memories!!!

Yep, Mom always did the same growing up. Said it took the fishy smell and muddy taste out.

Nice looking trout, Bear! We are headed up to the Poconos next weekend for our annual trip and can't wait. It's such a beautiful part of the country! I love Kentucky and wouldn't want to live any where else, but NE PA comes an awful close second..well maybe third after North Carolina

My older Sister retired & moved to NC.

                          I got another good story:
My Dad loved Trout & wasn't afraid to buck the daily limit. One time we were fishing Red Rock Run, in Pike County. I got back to the truck first, and there was a Fish Warden there. He said, "Dump 'em out". I only had 7, and the limit was 8. I caught more but I kept throwing number 8 back, so I could keep fishing. Then I hear my Dad coming through the woods. I thought to myself, "Oh Chit----He always keeps too many!!"
So the Warden tells Dad to Dump 'em out. Dang if he didn't have exactly 8 Trout in his creel.
After the Warden was a good distance away, I told my Dad, it's good he didn't keep more like he usually does, but then old Dad sat on the tailgate and dumped 6 more Trout out of his hip boots. He said he kept shifting his weight from right foot to left foot, when the Warden was there, because the one was still wiggling around in his boot.

When it came to hunting & fishing, My Old Man was a piece of work!!

Bear, your dad and mine would have been best of buds. He's horrible. I won't go into detail, but we have some great stories.

Love trout. Never salted them, though. We used to camp and fish a stream in southern MN. Whacked the head, slit the belly, rinsed in the stream and tossed into a CI pan on an open fire. Start picking. Nothing better.

Not sure if they still make them, but look for some parmesan and garlic Cheezit crackers. Crush them and bread the filets. Killer on trout. A close second is Keebler's sesame crackers.
