  • Would you do this backyard comp or judge it?

    So I just found out our county fair is having a backyard comp. I was asked to judge it if I don't participate. They're just throwing this together and I not to thrilled how its setup. 3 categories ribs, sliced meat, and shredded meat. Can use beef or pork but no chicken. The thing is you cook it at home and bring it in. Shit I tempted to just pull some out of the freezer and reheat. I worry bout judging cause who knows how clean their houses are. At a comp you can see if people are keeping it clean. Not sure what to do.

    Ask for a site. Bring a cooker and do it there for turn in time. Bet you draw CROWDS

          I was gonna ask if I could do it there. Our fair board is a bit different in how they do thing's. Might just pass on it we're supposed to play mud volleyball that day too. I got to tomorrow night to tell him yes or no on the judging.

            If you can't enter and cook it there.. for publicity...screw the whole shootin' match. You'd win anyway with what's in your freezer. Ho-Hum.

              Yeah the thought of judging sauced pulled pork turns me off. I know that's what the majority would bring. Nothing wrong with it just not my cup of tea. The publicity of its why I wanna do it. Right now I'm just word of mouth but it is spreading.

                  What's the use if you're not cooking it there? Hell, tell them you'll judge it if you can do a demo cook! Get the great new banner out there for folks to see!

                    Yep I'm doing it. Not looking forward to getting up at 4. Got some practicing to do on tenderloins yet. Found out I'm doing 5 racks of ribs and 2 tenderloins. Pretty pumped about this one.

                            you know the hygiene aspect of it hadn't occured to me till rich mentioned it.
                            But yep - if they aren't cooking it there - don't eat it.

                            Hell half the entries would have been bought from commercial smokers. Just to try and win :-)
