  • Probing the Turk

Where do you stick it is the question.

They always say stick the probe in the thickest part of the thigh, but from past experience I miss that sweet spot and and recieve an inaccurate high reading.

Last time I stuck it in the thickest part of the breast and had success. How about you?

One in the breast, one in the thick of the thigh not touching bone.

And do not probe for a couple hours in. No need... and you run a small risk of bad things gettin' inside the bird if you do.

I always have a hard time with that too. Seems like no matter where I put it, I'm always over- or under-done.

Go into the middle breast... hit the bone..then pull back a half inch.

BTW, I have a collection of turkey poppers... they'll be on ebay real soon...

Butt seriousLee, I poke the bird in the thigh as mentioned, and in the breast as mentioned, with my Thermapen. I don't use probes anymore... too many wires, and I don't like the clumsiness of them.
