  • Turkey FAIL!! Sorry, no pics...

Jeezus, after all these years of deep frying turkeys, I totally ruined a beautiful bird. Sigh. Calculations were 45 minutes at 350. The oil temp stayed steady at 350, or so I thought. Come to find oot, me thermo had taken a crap, and was misreading. By 100 degrees. 450. When I pulled that thing oot of the oil, I couldn't believe my eyes. Damn.

ThankPhilLee, there was some salvage of that poor thing, and we had a ham also. No one left hungry...

I was able to salvage some of the breast meat and some of the thigh. It wasn't pretty. And yes, we had a ham to go with, and lots of sides.

Well, I won't be doing that again, at least for a long while. What a blow that was when I walked in the house with that charcoal briquet in the shape of a turkey. I nearly died...

Good thing you had enough other fixings and a ham to help save the day. Shame about the bird.

Not at that point, butt shortLee thereafter...

I should have checked me thermo before the cook. It is one of the long stem analog types that do go bad. Just overlooked that part. Sigh...

Sorry for the way it turned out, HH, but...

Let's call it schadenfreude, but I did get a smile out of this. Why?

Sounds JUST like one of my college pizzas! We'd use one frozen bread dough for the base (in a 13x9 pan) and layer on whatever we had in the fridge. Put it in the oven at 425°...

And forget about it. We'd put it in around 10:30 (right when Friday Night In Concert or Saturday Night Live (first two seasons!; emptied the bars out in Madison) and then proceed to get, um, toasted.

It's amazing how much smaller than 13x9 those hockey pucks finished up!
