  • RIP Ali

Muhammad Ali passed away tonight. He will always be the champ to me. I watched him spar when he was known as Cassius Clay, at the 5th street Gym in Miami Beach when I was a young man.
As a veteran, I disagreed with his position as far as his refusal to be inducted, but still held a grudging respect for a man who gave up his life and career for what he believed in.
Whatever you may have thought of his politics, or his style, he was still the greatest boxer who ever lived.
    Rest in peace, champ.

When I was a young boy 13 - 14 in the mid '70's all I knew of him as he was hated, my family was a HUGE Frazier fan and I remember my dad have the fights on.. As I grew up and understood him better I really respected him as a boxer (still to cocky) but a great boxer.. I had chills when I seen him light the '96 Olympic torch in Atlanta.. He will be missed..

Can't argue with any of that.

I had a chance to meet him years ago before the brain injury surfaced. He was a very quiet & smart man. I have to agree that he was the greatest heavyweight fighter. Hope he is in a better place.

Years ago, he used to live in Cherry Hill, NJ, about a mile up the road from where I used to live. I was a teen then, and he was still Cassius Clay. Me and me buddies would drive by his house and drool. Actually saw him outside on one of our drive-bys...
