  • Power AirFryer XL 5.3 Qt Review and HAW Hot Wing Action!

Hi all, well it took three attempts to land one of these rigs and I couldn't be happier. My first two purchases fell through as they notified me a week to 10 days after purchase in both cases stating the unit was not available> They refunded my money immediately. I found this one at Bed Bath and Beyond and it actually cost me less to purchase. Bed Bath and Beyond has on demand coupons and the one I got was 20% off. They also had free shipping so the unit price was $119 for the 1700w 5.3 Qt model. I highly recommend the larger 5.3 Qt capacity. So far we have cooked two batches of wings, breakfast sausage, Nathans hotdogs, Chicken & Vegetable Spring Rolls and fries. All of which turned out amazing. The spring rolls were crispy and flaky with great flavor. The breakfast sausage was some of the best fried links I have had. This will be our go to method for cooking sausage and franks. Where this thing really shines is cranking out the wings! Love me some hot wings and this thing rocks da wings. It has a chicken setting that cooks at 360 degrees F for 20 minutes. I pulled my last batch at 15 minutes and they were just slightly over done. When I say over done the inside seemed perfect but they were a little dark. The skin was crispy though and the flavor was outstanding. The pile of bones were proof I thoroughly enjoyed them. Next time I'm thinking 360 for 12 minutes. Clean up is a breeze with this thing. You will see in the video a quick rinse and wipe with a paper towel is all that was necessary. Do the math.... 5 minutes prep, 15 minutes cook time and your sitting there with a nice plate of home made wings to feed on. Cleanup is 3 to 5 minutes. This makes this handy cooker a time saver and will get the job done in a fraction of the time. There is a healthy aspect of it since your not frying in a vat of hot oil. This had nothing to do with my purchase. I avoid deep fryers not because of health issues cooking in oil but specifically because of the smell they make. Man they just flat out funk up your entire house until the next day. This thing didn't even release any steam or smoke. I could go on and on but I won't. I'm going to leave it at that and if your interested there is a intro and cook video I made below. See it in action.

Thanks for viewing and you all have a great weekend!

Well Tom.. When you do I think you will be pleasantly surprised. The downside according to my wife is it's FUGLY. She thinks it looks like R2-D2 is sitting on our counter top. This one will have to be put away in a closet after each use.

I went to the Sam's club site and Amazon to read some reviews. Seems there are 3 issues. First seems to be there is an issue with the door. People can't slide it back in when they check/flip food. Though watching Rob's video it looks like that is mostly operator error. The second issue that I read a lot in reviews is that the unit fails after 1-5 uses. And lastly there is no customer service like with almost everything made in China. So even at 99.00 dollars I may wait and ask Rob in a month or so if his is going strong. Not saying no, but i am going to patient on this one. Maybe when I get my tax return in May(yes May I do my taxes last minute).

All valid concerns Tom. The drawer issue is more or less an alignment issue. If it's not slid in straight, it will bind on closing. I found it works best to use the handle at first to get it slid 1/2 way in, then just push on the middle or center of the front of drawer with a firm push. After I figured this out the other day it has not been an issue. So far I have 9 cooks on the thing. I'll keep you posted.

Looks great for a small operation.... right now with the 4 teenage kids I be cooking all night... .... but I could see how a family of one or two could get a ton of use out of it!

                    Good review!!

Great video Rob. Might just pull the trigger on one of these, going to do some research and look for a deal.

Ha. I saw this @ 2:40 AM (not the video) and went back to bead dreaming of hot wings...Now that I see the video I really really want some wings...

However the small serving would be great for a snack it will not replace the kettle/vortex for fixing wings for a group...

Looking forward to seeing what you and John show us next

Great video and review! Looking into this gig, it ain't gonna work for me... too many faces to feed and not enough capacity. Love the concept tho... and the R2D2 reference cracked me up!

I can only give my short time review:
My Drawer slides in & out real easy so far, without even really paying attention.
So far I used it 8 times without any failure, except for some lousy Corn-Dogs yesterday, but that was a Poor recipe---Gonna try my own recipe today. I promised "minnbill".

I'm sure Rob & I will keep you guys updated on our successes & our failures.

I haven't even been paying attention to the drawer when pushing it in, until it's all the way in. Then if one side is 1/8" out yet I just bump it a little & it's all good.

The thing I really like is the way it works when you pull the drawer out in the middle of a Cook. Everything stops while you flip stuff over in the basket.
Then when you push it back in, it all comes back on & the timer & heat is right back to where it was when you pulled the drawer out. You don't have to reset anything. I love it, so far.

Note: I have to push the button to release the Basket from the Base before washing, because Mrs Bear's hands just won't do it. No Biggie!
