  • Thermopro wireless thermometer

I bought a Thermopro TP08 and up until the last week it has been working great. Just got it the beginning of January. Last weekend I smoked turkey breasts and this past weekend I smoked a pork loin and the same thing happened during both smokes. The meat temp will be climbing steadily and just when I am thinking it it getting close to finish temp it suddenly drops about 10 degrees. When the turkey hit 159 deg F it dropped to 150 and the pork loin yesterday hit 137 F and dropped to 129 F. Both times I grabbed my digital instant read and it read the meat at the higher temp.

I just got my smoker around christmas so I'm new to this but this is the first time I've seen this happen in the past 4 months. Is this normal? Batteries are fresh. Faulty probe?

I would guess faulty probe. Test it. Cup full of ice water and a pot of boiling water.

    Then call thermo pro

【Lifetime Sensor Probe Warranty 】– Although the sensor probe is rigidly produced, after a long-time period of use, a few amount units could experience incorrect temperature readings problem caused by careless or improper use of sensor probe. We will provide you a brand-new sensor probe, free of charge!
Although I would not say a few months is long term or admit I was careless or used them to test exhaust gasses on my jet airplane.....sounds like they know there may be a problem.

Yup, sounds like a probe went south on ya. I stopped using probes a long thyme ago. I just use my Thermapens anymore.

I don't know what Smoker you have, but I know it's not great to have to open the door on an electric to use a Thermapen. That's why we love Wireless Digital Therms.
If you want a quick check while at the smoker, just switch the two probe wires. That should give you an idea of whether the Probe itself is good or bad. If the problem moves with the probe, it's the probe (maybe the joint between the wire & the probe).

I get it. I have never used an electric unit, butt I see the reasoning for the remote for them. I'm so used to coal and wood, it's just natural for me to open, take the temp, close. Quick temp back on ya.

I am using a single door propane smoker so I definitely try not to open the door other than to add wood.

I am going to try the ice water and boiling water. I'll put both probes in and see how they compare. If the one is off I will contact Thermopro and see what they have to say.

            Thanks.

LOL---Yeah you lose maybe 3 minutes if any.

Electric takes 10 to 15 minutes to get back to temp, and then the balance from left to right is off for even longer.

              WattBurning weakness.

Just wanted to update on this...... I ended up being able to prove it was a faulty probe when I found and old wireless unit I have that luckily used the same plug on the probe. Old probe worked just fine on the Thermopro unit and the Thermopro probe acted up on the old unit.

Customer service is slow to respond but they sent a replacement without hassle.
