  • Hello from Sam

Hey everyone. I'm using the Chargriller 5650 Double Play. I thought I'd introduce myself into the world of smokers yet have a propane grill as well. Looking forward to reading tips and tricks of the trade.

Now that's an interesting looking bbq.
I can see one flaw in it.

The two sections should have been joined so that if you were smoking you could use the whole 900 square inch cooking area. Instead they've just stuck two grilles side by side and left them unconnected.

If that were me there'd be some mods on the way. Cut a hole through from the the charcoal side to the gas side, insert short length of pipe if necessary and add a swivel door to block it off when necessary.
That way you can use the whole cooking area of both units for proper smoking.
Either using the charcoal side or the gas side for heat.

It also looks like you can add a side fire box for around $50 - do that !

Hell for $250 for the actual unit. You can mod your heart's content out of it.

I've had a chargriller outlaw sitting out in the british weather for 10 years. The cover fell apart after about 3 months. So what i do is on a semi-regular basis. I spray the outside liberally with a general purpose penetrating and lubricating spray (wd 40 rip-off). I use the cheap stuff from the pound shop. And that's kept it in great condition with no cover, out in all weathers.

With a little bit of thought you should get some real good bbq from that
