  • I bought a Weber

I have been using my MES for quite some time now but decided I also wanted a charcoal grill. I made the mistake of having the wife with me when I purchased my Weber. Without really researching Weber grills, I bought the Jumbo Joe 22" at the local Wal-Mart. I hope I don't live to regret getting this one and not a Weber Original or Premium.

So far I love it. I haven't smoked anything on it yet, but I have grilled a lot of other stuff on it. Yesterday, I ordered a vortex from MadHunky and I also ordered a Stok SIS9000 replacement grate.

I am not worried that the vortex was a great choice. I know many here own one and have stated its versatility. As far as the Stok replacement grate goes, well it may have been a good or bad choice and time will tell.

    Any suggestions or comments welcome.

First a question, did you buy a 22" or a Jumbo Joe? A Jumbo Joe is 18.5".
    The Vortex is Gold!
I have the Stok grate, and it is Great! You will not regret that either, if you bought a 22" Weber! It will not fit on a Jumbo Joe. JMHO.

The reason I got that one, is my wife was with me and I couldn't explain to her the additional cost of the Original Premium. I will never let her shop for grills with me again. LOL

Welll, that new on me! It looks like it is not as deep as a regular kettle, the Vortex may be too tall?? I don't know, never seen that critter before!
The grate should be fine....I hope, don't know.

I do have some Fenders hangin bout the place.

Owens BBQ sells a "mini" vortex made to fit the (18.5") Jumbo Joe...Rich might have em too but it's not on his site...

Seems like a good excuse to get the other Weber and then you'll have two

I hadda go by WallyWorld fer me Sis today and put an eye on them. Grates look the same size. Has the olde style bottom vent and less room under the coal grate, might be the same distance between grates, Vortex might work???? Don't know, pretty weird critter!

The StoK came today, haven't had a chance to see how it fits.

Sure have. First time was just some burgers and dogs for the grandkids. The next time was some Ribeyes. I got to doing some research here on what others were cooking with their kettles. So I roasted a couple Cornish Game Hens and they were awesome.

I had no idea how versatile these things are. I am currently waiting on my Vortex that I ordered from MadHunky. Wings will be the first thing I cooking when that baby gets here.

It's hard to think of things that can't be done, cooked, smoked, etc. on a kettle. Especially if you add the right accessories to compliment it. Vortex is a great way to start.... The best accessory to a kettle IMO
