  • Did Someone Say Corn Dogs?

    Here is the recipe:

    2/3 cup corn meal
    1/3 cup all purpose flour
    1 teaspoon salt
    1/2 cup milk
    1 egg beaten
    2 tablespoons vegetable oil
Additional bowl of flour for dusting dogs

Mix corn meal, flour, and salt. Add milk, egg, and oil: mix well. Coat dogs With flour, then wipe off excess flour with hand so they are just lightly dusted. Drop into corn meal mixture and use fingertips to press mixture onto dusted dogs. Using fingers pick up dogs and shake off excess corn meal mixture. Carefully place into deep hot oil, (375 degrees) until golden brown.

I triple the batch for this many dogs. You will throw away some batter, but it's better to have too much than too little.
Hopefully the following pictures will tell the story.

This is Craig's plate. First notice the thin crispy coating. The parts that seem to have no coating are where my fingers were right before the dog hit the fryer. We save that part for the last bite.

This is my plate with spicy brown mustard. These two mustards are what we have available here, but they are not the first favorite. Our daughter sent us a bottle of awesomeness for Christmas one year and that stuff really makes a corn dog great!!!!! It's called Toe Gator Habenero Mustard Sauce.

Thanks for the love!!!! Who knew a plate of corn dogs could create so much interest!

I've had this recipe longer than I have known FREAK, which is well over three decades!! I stole it from a bag of corn meal. It called for Quaker corn meal. I don't even remember Quaker making corn meal. I thought they just did oats.
