  • Steak Experiment

This is something I wanted to try, just to see how it would turn out......

Marinated two steaks cut from a round roast in Grill Mates Brown Sugar and Bourbon, then trimmed some fat

    Topped with:
    diced onion
    minced garlic
    chopped mushrooms
    Colby-Jack cheese strips

Rolled them up, kinda like a fattie, and tied

Into the smoker running at 225 with hickory

Mopped every half hour with plenty of butter

Almost done, but some cheese did start to leak from one

Pulled out at 140 internal (2 hours), foiled, and wrap in a towel for a half hour rest

    Final pics

Steak was really good, but wished I would have sauteed the onion, garlic, and shrooms before rolling em in the steak.
Oh well.....next time.....still real good eats!

Great idea Gene, from me too for originality!

              Looks perfectly done.

I agree, sauteed mushrooms and onions would be perfect!

Sauteed veggies in it or not, Gene, I would still take a big ole slice of that. And the egg idea...would put it over the top! But then if you just might as well wrap it in bacon, too
