  • any tips for steaks? smoked preferably

    I have seen it done, but have no clue how to even start. The wife wants steak this weekend for the husker game (this is the one time of year that I choose above thanksgiving... opening day for husker football. well, this and opening day of deer season), and I want to smoke something... it sounds like a good time to try something new. I've done the ribs, done the pork butt... it was either brisket or steak, and the wife chose steak.

    So... any tips?

    -1954'ish Philco fridge smoker
    -1950's GE electric fridge smoker in progress (Went to WuTang and will probably never be completed. lol)
    -enough beer to drown any problem/ailment you may encounter

    Man...I'm old style & like mine on some mesquite...or oak! Like to get it hotter than hell...meat on & oh yeah! Thinkin I need a Natty!

      What he said, , ,But, , ,depending on your budget, I have slow smoked some prime rib that was a panty dropper. I'm just sayin, , ,it can be done. 2 and 3/4 to 3 hours at about 200 easy on the smoke. And don't you dare let that beef hit 140 internal. But that's just me. let us know what you do. Oh yeah keep it moist till the last 1/2 hour.

        I like a THICK cut Ribeye smoked with some Hickory, but really prefer a Filet with Oil, CBP and Kosher Salt grilled Hot and Fast and oh yeah, baste it with real Butter......mmmmmmmm

          I'm with Mike though. Steaks, get the grill surface of the sun hot and grill them babies.

          You could always smoke some ABTs or a fatty for appetizers.

            OK Andy if your wife is from NE. as mine is, then this will not work...
            If you have a great Omaha steak them turn on the girl about 350 - 400 and apply sea salt and cbp to the steak and cook for about 3-5 min depending on the thickness then flip for about 2-4 min and EAT!!

            Great eating!! If she loves burnt then do not do a good steak just get a old boot and use the sole!!! LOL

                  No... she's not from Nebraska. she's from Michigan (my family lived there from when I was 9 until I turned 18, then we all moved back to Omaha).

                  now that I have come to work and started talking about our weekend plans, one of the ladies at work wants me to smoke a brisket for her... that should be enough to curb my smoking desires for the time being. I am still leaning towards another fatty, or possibly sneaking a rack-o-ribs in there. we'll see.

                  thanks for the steak tips though guys. pretty basic stuff, but I usually tend to "over-do" things and over-think what I am doing.
