  • Price of brisket?

I wanted to buy a brisket today, I've never smoked one yet, and when I saw the price I was shocked, $24.50 for a 4# brisket, that's over $6 a lb, I thought brisket was supposed to be a cheap cut of meat. Is this an average price or was the store I went to a rip off?

Thats about what I pay here also, between $1.60 & $1.95/lb..... Do you have a Cash & Carry or a Restraunt Depot type of store that cater to Restraunts around you?..... That is where I would start looking if you can find something like that..... Pork butts run about $.99 to $1.49/lb around my parts.

I agree, but 6 bucks per lb is still insane. He obviously ain't shopping at No Frills.

I checked our Sam's this week and the meatcutter said they never get packers. Only points.
              I'll check Wallyworld this weekend.

I think Wally here is about 2.29 a packer around the 12 pound range.

As far as I'm concerned, anything over .99/lb is friggin' rape. I mean, it's a crap cut, boot leather. It's been a long time since I've seen them that cheap, but it's gotta be pretty close to that before I buy. I'll just suffer, by eating pulled pork, or chicken or turkey, or chuck roast, or CSR's, or ......................

Years ago brisket was CHEAP but once more folks figured out how to cook it the price went UP...
If you are just buying the flat then plan on getting hosed...

Yep, it's the reason I haven't done one yet. The Sam's I go to doesn't sell packers. Flats. Costco doesn't either. Think they had each seperate, but not a packer. And higher priced than Sam's. May just buy a flat from Sam's soon.

The Walmart a mile from me doesn't sell meats. One Walmart, a good 20+ miles away, has the full packers for around 2.49 a pound. I called around. If I go to the butcher a few miles away, it's close to 6.00/pound!

A bit jealous of you folks who can get them regularly and at reasonable prices. Can't see driving 40+ miles for a piece of meat. One of these days, I'll be going that way and bring a cooler with.

kinda like flank steak. Used to be cheap as shit. but once folks found out it the best cut for jerky, price went up.

We have a Cash and Carry close by. Buck 89 per pound usually for packers.

                            It's all supply and demand.

Hell the Safeway here doesn't even carry them. Back before I found the Cash and Carry I asked them to order one for me. Didn't know what it was then, probably a trimmed flat.

Anyway, they called and told me it was in. I asked how much? They said $3.89 per pound.

I told them to keep it.

                              Thanks for the advice

Thanks for all the advice, we do have a restaurant supply store near by, so I'll try them, if not I have 2 Super Walmarts within 20 minutes.
