  • The World Series Of BBQ Has A New Home At Arrowhead Stadium

The American Royal BBQ...the World Series of BBQ has a new home. It is being moved from the american royal complex to the parking lot of Arrowhead Stadium. http://www.kansascity.com/news/local...e20258019.html

I don't know that I am pumped about this move...the American Royal complex had a certain coolness about it...the normal side and the dark side...the west bottoms area...it just screamed BBQ. I'm kind of sad to see it change.

I think that is exactly why...this is big news here in KC...and the stories have a tone of well they had to turn people away in the past and they couldn't grow any more beyond the existing footprint. Well holy hell how big does it have to get? As someone that has competed before, I would never go to the royal...NEVER! I think you would have better and less subjective odds buying a powerball ticket.

When you have to strike out with your submission 10 minutes early in order to meet the turn in deadline for judging...it's just to big.

        'WORLD' series of bbq ?

is that like the world series of baseball ?

ie: replace the word 'world' for the word 'american' :-)

So it's basically huge comp then ?

The American Royal BBQ competition is ENORMOUS!

The American Royal Barbecue is the largest event of the historic American Royal and the season finale for the competitive barbecue circuit. Spreading over 54 acres in Kansas City's Stockyards District, and with over 550 teams competing in four meat categories. The Royal is the largest barbecue contest in the world.

Always crack up at 'world' used in place of 'american'. We are guilty. :)

We are really NOT guilty...until some OTHER country decides to top us.

PS: You can use "World Series of Soccer" (or whatever ya call it) if ya like.

umm well when the actual inter country World baseball comp is held . America don't win :-)

I'll go with you on the bbq comp being the world's largest.
But world series implies that other countries are involved. Which I suspect is not actually the case here :-)

I did read somewhere that over 90% of americans will never own a passport or actually leave the states in their life time.
So you can see where the idea that there is no other place in the world but america comes from.
It's just annoying to those of us who don't live there :-)

The royal does dound like something to put on my bucket list though

Great place to tailgate, not good for the poor saps that have to turn in food. Good lord, this is going to be ridiculous!

                          1. The teams in inter Country play are college, not American Pro players.
                          2. I have had a Passport since the mid 70's, been across the pond many times. Ate English cooking, came home.

                              236. Oh Joy.

It's too big a crapshoot these days. I'm not poopooing the Royal... it's a blast. But it really cannot be taken seriously. IMO.
