  • (Slightly) Smoked Beef German Rouladen...

Took some thin sliced flank steak & made some German Rouladen yesterday. They were only on the smoke for aboot an hour just to give them a hint of smoke (sorry, forgot to take pics of that). They then went into the pan for a sear & simmer...

Ideally it is served up with spätzle but I don't have the means to make it so, after simmering for a lil over an hour it was ready to serve up with some rice, corn, peas & ziti...

    Ja ist das sehr gut.

      bbqgoddess - here's one recipe -

      http://foodsoftheworld.activeboards....topic1180.html

give it a try if you'd like!

ice - looks great! been wanting to try this for a while, and have plans for sometime this winter.

spaetzel (known in hungary as nokedli) are easy, fun and taste great! all you really need is flour, egg, water and salt and pepper to taste. here's an easy, easy step-by-step showing how simple it is - no special equipment required -

spaetzel or no spaetzel, points for a great german supper!

Thanks TW, next time I make it I will have to try some spätzle.

I took the base of my recipe from one I found on allrecipes.com but I made a few changes for my tastes.

Here is how I made it...
          INGREDIENTS
          thin sliced flank steak
          German stone ground mustard
          thick sliced bacon
          diced onion
          red wine vinegar
          dill pickle spears
          butter or margarine
aboot a pint of dark beer (I used a porter)
          beef bouillon cube
          sauerkraut

          DIRECTIONS
Marinade flank steak in red wine vinegar for a day & a half to two days in fridge.
Generously spread one side of each filet with mustard to taste. Place bacon, onion, pickle slice & a layer of sauerkraut to taste on each filet & form into a roll. Use toothpick to hold together.
Heat large skillet with medium heat & add butter. Place the rolls in butter & sauté until browned.
Pour dark beer into skillet & add bouillon cube. Simmer rolls for aboot an hour turning occasionally.

Oh yeah, I also took the gravy & thickened it up some with flour & milk.

                    interesting.

completely different stuffing to the ones we used to make inn germany.

                    good combination though
