                I new I smelt asphalt...

Thanks for sharing Ken, very cool.

The state of Michigan takes asphalt cores each layer we lay down, to check thickness and density (compaction). Some days they'll drill 5 to 10 or more holes in the fresh asphalt a day to make sure they're gettting what they are paying for, if not we the company gets a penalty in pay. Yes the holes get filled up with asphalt.

Well what the hell..the roads still suck. I DO admit in the last couple years some improvements have been made..but driving a 1 ton van with a light load tells one all ABOUT the road surface.

You should see the roads in the Upper Peninsula (UP)....

That's what happens when states like Michigan wait to long to resurface roads. Plus Asphalt ain't cheap anymore. One Hwy. could eat up millions of dollars.
